Communities Magazine

Since 1972, Communities has been the primary resource for information, issues, and ideas about intentional communities in North America – from urban co-ops to cohousing groups to ecovillages to rural communes. Communities now also focuses on creating and enhancing community in the workplace, in nonprofit or activist organizations, and in neighborhoods, with enhanced coverage of international communities as well. We explore the joys and challenges of cooperation in its many dimensions.

I was lucky enough to be an interim art director for Communities for a couple of seasons. It was interesting figuring ourtnew age memes right alongside folk and farm, ideas of the future and the past. These were some of my duties:

    • Communicating with a worldwide staff and talent partners, assisted in establishing improved budget, work flow and print production methods.
    • Responsibilities included working with writers and photographers directing submissions, preparing images for print, devising the image storyline and advising team on image making.
    • Generated original photography, photo-graphics, illustration and multimedia slide shows
